Geoff Dixon: Portraits of Us takes us inside the messy studio and fascinating process of an acclaimed Kiwi painter. In the opening excerpt, Dixon explains how a fascination with space travel and environmentalism inspired his distinctive painting style, and is joined by fellow artist Euan Macleod. The two friends trained together at Christchurch's Technical Institute in the 1980s, and discuss how the counterculture of the time encouraged their growth as people and artists. Co-directed by longtime collaborators Glenis Giles and Clare O'Leary, the documentary debuted at the 2022 NZ International Film Festival.
Christchurch was amazing. It was conservative, but it wasn't as well. A lot of things behind closed doors.– Geoff Dixon on his time at art school
