Good Morning - Merata Mita Tribute

Television (Excerpts) – 2010

..In whatever project that she worked on she set the kaupapa, and her spirit was very true to that kaupapa all the way through, and there was this great passion and fire in the belly that she had for anything that she took on. And when you’ve got that, your film's interesting, because the passion and the fire builds into the film.
– Merata Mita's longtime editor Annie Collins
...Barry Barclay and Don Selwyn and Tama Poata — they’re all part of the same group, and she was really the last, I guess, of that generation.
– Himiona Grace from the NZ Film Archive (now Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision)
She had this spark in her eye that was quite daunting, but also, you know you could see how clever she was. She was just amazing how her mind worked. She did set a kaupapa in front of you, and just pushed away all the blocks to make sure that you achieved those goals. But she was really inspiring and really really funny...
– Himiona Grace from the NZ Film Archive (now Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision) describes Merata Mita
The richness of her character. She was all things. She had a formidable intellect — just completely formidable — quite scary at times, but along with that she had this delightful sense of humour as well, and a lot of compassion, and also a lot of hardness to her as well . . . she taught me most of what I know about editing for documentary.
– Merata Mita's longtime editor Annie Collins describes Merata Mita, early in this report
