Ida and four of William’s children actually left NZ before William was killed at Chanuk Bair. They were looking forward to spending time with him on leave.
Sadly this never happened. William’s death took a toll on Ida and his children who had been eagerly looking forward to spending time with him in England.
As time went on and a declining financial position, Ida was never able to return home.
