He’s smarter than he looks and he has a unique combination with his mate Jeff. Noodle doesn’t really think he’s a brainy guy but he does just come up with these ideas and half the time they’re pretty good ideas. Some are fairly stupid ideas too.

There’s something really attractive about Jeff and Noodle in terms of being very likeable characters. I really like the way their bizarre logic works.

We actually auditioned women too, but Rawiri gave a great mixture of being loving and being cantankerous and it just kind of gelled. He’s also very funny.

The consensus was that 10 to 15-year-old boys are very media savvy, very interested in computer games, individual pursuits like skateboarding, and sexuality (not necessarily in that order) and, in terms of humour, like physical Dumb and Dumber-style slapstick.

Jeff’s pretty much just what I was a few years ago – doesn’t pay much attention to anything else around him, not highly interested in school and just out to have a good time and enjoy what he thinks he enjoys, without much attention to the consequences.
