After WWll, the Five Eyes spy network began monitoring and sharing intelligence between the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia and NZ. Narrated by Lucy Lawless, this online documentary argues that Five Eyes can now capture virtually every email and phone conversation in the world. Among the many experts interviewed are Kiwi author Nicky Hager, ex CIA director Michael Hayden, and ex hacker Gregg Housh (who mentions the ease of hacking into US networks). Broken into five chapters (plus bonus 'Dig Deeper' material), I Spy first launched on its own website, where viewers could make comments as they watched.
It was going in this direction anyway, but 9/11 incredibly accelerated it. Once you got the terrorist attack here, we became very unforgiving in not grabbing communications, and so we accelerated our ability, our — for want of a better word — invasiveness, into communications networks, in which legitimate targets co-existed with legitimately protected communications.– Former NSA and CIA director General Michael Hayden
