Hero image for IHO

Geneva AM’s debut single 'IHO' (umbilical cord in te reo Māori) resonates with a pulsing electronic groove and ethereal vocals inspired by mōteatea (traditional chants). The former lead singer of SoccerPractise wrote the track after feeling "super powerful" following the home birth of her baby during a Covid lockdown on Waiheke Island. The music video, produced as part of the Waiata Anthems series, features Geneva AM (aka Geneva Alexander-Marsters) performing while standing in a pitch-black ocean at night, draped in a flowing gown and illuminated by a single spotlight.

I think that this song could encourage people to not fear birth because there is a lot of fear, and the fear is what will hurt you the most. I just want people to feel empowered [by] their womb space. And know they are powerful; they are the gateway between life and death.
– Geneva AM on her track 'IHO', The NZ Herald, 7 July 2023
