Sleeping in his clothes with his passport strapped to his person, former Minister of Police and Auckland Mayor John Banks is prepared for anything in Madagascar. Animal lover Banks is mesmerised by lemurs and tortoises, and finds a chameleon who looks like Robert Muldoon. He dodges potential cases of food poisoning and bush bashes on a new knee. Though his bartering skills aren't much chop, Banks enjoys the company of the locals — even if he is trying to win their vote for their next election. He ends the show admitting long holidays and being out of his comfort zone aren't his thing.
He's a smart little guy — he's just sold me a newspaper that sells for 200 [ariary] for 2000. He's a very good little businessman. He'll drive a Mercedes one day.– Presenter John Banks on a cunning child in Antananarivo, early in this episode
