Jesse McLeod - The Journey

Short Film (Full Length) – 2004

This Auckland winner from the early days of the 48Hours film contest makes for creepy comedy. Two burglars stumble across a videotape and watch "former rugby great, healer and prophet" Jesse McLeod (Jonny Brugh) talk his viewers through the 'final journey'. Brugh brings plenty of 'smart casual' confidence as a guru helping a picture perfect suburban family with the practical details of saying goodbye — forever. The film was written by Brugh, Te Radar (who directs) Lee Baker, Stayci Taylor and Dean Butler (Funny Business). This was the only year that 48Hours had two regional winners, rather than one overall champion.

Character: Jesse McLeod. Character trait: Total has-been. Line of dialogue: "Do you mind if I have the last one?" Prop: ice.
– Required elements for the Auckland leg of the 48Hours film competition
