John Clarke interviewed by Ian Fraser (NZFGC Conference)

Web (Full Length) – 2012

Iconic broadcaster Ian Fraser reunites with longtime friend and comic legend John Clarke in Australia to talk about Clarke's childhood, comedy career and using humour to make life more entertaining. Fraser was the MC at the 2012 NZ Food and Grocery Council annual conference in Melbourne, where he had a relaxed chat with Clarke. The Fred Dagg icon reveals what inspired him to create the beloved farmer character, the "fabulously talented" actors he met at Victoria University, and moving across the ditch in 1977 with pregnant wife Helen. Clarke also talked about the runaway success of his first album.

The great lesson of my dad was that I didn’t want to work for other people. I wanted to back my own judgement and make my own mistakes, and fall in my own hole and clamber my own way out of it.
– John Clarke, on his dad's choice to work for a boss
