In this vanilla envelope I have half a dozen of Mum's stuffed wontons. They're absolutely lovely, eh. They're completely impregnated with you know, prunes and cabbage leaves. Mum reckons just, you know, pass them around and help keep the show running smoothly.

It was older brother Michael, who was always very gentle in quite a rough-and-tumble environment, to whom she was particularly close, most alike. So much so that they became a creative team, with Michael writing the voice of her gum-chewing, vowel-mangling Lyn of Tawa.

People do call me Lyn. They do. It's flattering, I suppose ... On the whole, they mean well. I remember when Lyn was in her heyday, a lot of people thought they were better than Lyn. If I appeared anywhere they would look down on me. Thank God things have moved on.
