Our first trip was Brest, which was a pretty hot target. Nothing happened. It was a beautiful day and there were no fighters. We must have had fighters around us somewhere but we didn’t see them. It was just over there and back again, which was quite amazing.– Arthur Joplin
Half a dozen Lancasters with Tallboys (bombs) flew in at 500 feet … and dropped the Tallboys at the bottom of the dam. And it was our little effort from above; the Tallboys blew up and the dam broke and all the water came down, and the Americans were allowed to go across the river.– Arthur Joplin
We were supposed to go up to Scotland where it was nice and clear, and they brought us back to base where it was all bad weather and I just couldn’t cope with the bad weather ... Two got killed, which was bad.– Arthur Joplin
