The Māori Battalion had to try and get the railway station. They took the railway station but they carried a little bit too far and the Germans absolutely slaughtered them. There was 200 of them and only about 60 came out.

When they hit my vehicle I could hear the shrapnel landing all around me but nothing hit me, so I was pretty lucky.
