Milk & Money - Feed and Fertiliser

Web (Full Length Episode) – 2021

In this third episode of web series Milk & Money, journalist Baz Macdonald looks at synthetic fertiliser and water key inputs for intensive dairy farming and asks if there is a way to lessen environmental impacts while still making money. Mark Wynne (from fertiliser company Ballance Agri-Nutrients) and independent consultant Stan Winter offer differing views on fertiliser use, while Greenpeace CEO Russel Norman favours reducing New Zealand's dairy herd to repair environmental damage. Waikato farmers also weigh in. Macdonald writes about the show's birth, and a week spent on a dairy farm.

We have a wicked problem: we now have too many people on the planet to do things the old-fashioned way. New Zealand has a role to continue to produce high quality food and export that to the world.
– Ballance Agri-Nutrients executive Mark Wynne on New Zealand's role in the global marketplace
