Ah, the TOUR....I was a regional organiser in Hawkes Bay. I was a solo parent with a young son. Most of the time I was terrified, police harassment, and only recently has my son told me Hastings Central School headmaster stopped him playing rugby due to my activities. My family - brothers rather unlikeable men - screamed at me - my mother was ashamed of me. I was not in a strong position to do a good job, but was the only person who stepped up at the time and did what I could, a few nights out putting up posters, and a lot of people did help in their own way.

I saw Merita Mita, what a strong person she was. I think her film and the actual events helped us Pakeha grasp what had happened in Aotearoa. We should be so proud of her - her courage, the sacrifice she made to make this film. The fact is, she should have been honoured, as for many of us it was the start of seeing what really went on in our own country. And thank you to her kids, you did it tough and learned that the mean streak that is STILL OUT there. Long live righteousness.

ive just watched an event that im proud that happened and give thanks to the peoples who stood up for the truth... what took place is a part of world history.....Biko...Mandala...or Piggy Muldoon....take your pick....two men a mountain...the other very much a loner glorified by nothiness and major shortsightedness...this event should be part of 'education awareness'and made available to every living Kiwi......thanks to all those that participated..

I watched this doc back in 2009 when I was in school and just felt like watching it again, properly this time. Just couldn't believe in everything that took place. So proud of the people of New Zealand who tried their best to end the tour. I really can't believe those police officers back then, real pricks to be honest.

It is great to see this doc.I googled the stop the tour of 1981 because' Andrew Kgoti Molotsane(a SACTU trade unionist) who died in 1984 at the age of 32 was reburied here in SA on the 30 June 2012, from where he tragically passed on in Botswana

He indeed was a great motivator and orator of his time.I knew him from our days of SASM in 1974.

May he find eternal peace and watch over us as a people of SA as we navigate our painful struggle for social cohesion.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to see this. I was involved in the protests, when i was 16. It was during this time i heard gil scott heron's song 'johannesburg' . This was a pivotal turning point in my life, and I ended up living and working with gil (RIP) for a number of years here in the USA. Much respect to everyone involved in the mobilization during this time, it made me who I am today.

A great doco thankyou Merata Mita & co and Nz on screen for putting Patu on-line. Awesome to see NZers young and old and from different ethnic backgrounds fighting rascism.

I think this film is so full of passion which made it possible for equal race rights in New Zealand. I love the standing up for what is right as a human being.

For some1 like me who was only 10 at the time, this film has been a great educator for me...Thanks you Merata & co!

Tonight, I attended a 30th anniversary meeting in Hamilton regarding storming the pitch and was greatly humbled by the testimonies given by the speakers, my aunty Mihirawhiti Searankce, John Minto, Karl & Ross Crook, Ian Grant & Michael Law & 1 other lady.

There was also a speaker from South Africa Mark Fredricks (and his wife Enid) who really brought the reality of then & now in his homeland, he is currently touring through NZ - I feel really blessed for the opportunity I was given to attend tonight's function xox

Patu! A brilliant raw documentary depicting the issues of the tour. Merata Mita's work at its best. I wonder what it was like for maori policemen who had their own whanau opposing them on the protest lines?? or in fact anyone who had friends and family on opposite sides to their own??

I was in Hamilton in 1981 and was a marshall in the march that stopped the game. It was a great day and was worth it! For evil to prevail it only needs good men to do nothing!

I so want to believe we've moved on, and in no small measure due to the likes of Merata Mita, Donna Awatere, Atareta Poananga; women who shook up the 1980s. But then out from left field flies Andy Haden, here in 2010, and you've really got to wonder.

There will be a renewed and strong need and demand for this documentary given that some within the NZRFU and an influential rednecked few within the National party continue to live in the past ie the 1950's New Zealand. We must remain certain and determined that this mono cultural lack of regard and fear of indigenous culture will die with them !!

I have been watching "Patu" by Merata Mita.
I think every New Zealander should watch it to restore hope in the union of our cultures within our country, it also gives me the sence that the majority of us share the same compassion even if our Governments dont....

Im quite young. im seventeen years old and go to a low decile school in South Auckland. this documentary hit me hard as my parents were involved in these protests and to watch actual footage of what happened was very disturbing. I believed this did happen
