Pecking Order leaps into the world of bird breeding. The "feelgood flockumentary" explores the personalities, power plays, and best in show passions of the 148-year-old Christchurch Poultry, Bantam and Pigeon Club, as members prepare for the national championships. This opening excerpt introduces some of the key participants, including longtime club president Doug Bain. Radio New Zealand critic Simon Morris called the film "hugely entertaining". Director Slavko Martinov earlier conned many viewers with the YouTube release of Propaganda, which he described as "a social experiment about propaganda".
...a heartwarming, rib-tickling slice of life that puts a feathery spin on Best in Show. ... the club in-fighting and drama is half the appeal of Martinov’s work; the other half is the contagious love these people have for their birds.– Reviewer Josie Adams on website The Spinoff, 10 June 2019
