"Pitch Perfect meets Modern Family set on a marae" was the tagline for this 2017 Māori Television comedy/drama, about a kapa haka group that fluke their way to the national championships. This first episode shows that with seven weeks to prepare, whanaungatanga (a sense of bonding/family connection) will be as much of a challenge as getting it together onstage. Hori Ahipene plays dual roles as worried coach Teepz and Aunty Mavis. Roimata Fox is kapa princess Koakoa, and actor/director Katie Wolfe is Nanny Fanny. She is one of those formidable matriarchs that a lot of people know and have in their iwi. I talked to a lot of people who knew these matriarchs who are often connected with their kapa haka teams and absolutely tough as tough ... They don't hold anything back in telling you where you went wrong.– Actor Katie Wolfe on playing Nanny Fanny, in an interview with TV Guide, 14 March 2017
