I was on this back in about 1979/80 actually. Down in Christchurch and Mum saw an ad in the paper for kids so we went along. She must have missed the bit where it said we needed a costume because everyone else had one except me. There was a cowboy and a fairy, I remember that much. For me, they rustled up a couple of towels and wrapped me up in them and said I was an Arab.
Ahh the good old days.
Punch a punch a punch a balloon.

And no, TVNZ don't have any copies, as I've submitted a request to them.

They were the days !! Maybe they should bring it back. Kids would be better off with this than all the other uneducational rubbish they watch.

Our son, Cameron, was a guest on Romper Room with Miss Yvonne. Prominent in my memory of those 2 days was his pet praying mantis which he took in to 'show and tell' - he had a great time!

Cathy Scopes - Miss Cathy - was the first presenter when we recorded five programmes one day a week in Studio 2, Shortland Street. Had to be finished by mid afternoon as the studio had to be reset for the early evening news on TV2. I was the regular floor manager on Romper Room before it moved to Christchurch signalling the end of Cathy's television career. She went back to teaching pre-school.

@Byron, unfortunately the series is not on DVD and most likely won't ever be available to buy on DVD as so little from this series still exists. NZ On Screen has licensed what is available from TVNZ Archives. Should you wish to make your own enquiry about the programme, here is the info to do so: www.tvnz.co.nz/footage

This same opening was also used for the Australian editions of the show, and a variation was also used in Japan as well, I suppose the Clasters supplied this for international markets outside the United States.

I would love to see footage as well. I was on once, that had me appear on 2 shows. One was pet day where I took my cat along, and the other show was show and tell, where I took a wooden doll that gets smaller and smaller inside. Would love to have seen it...
