Being able to portray Māori characters, and use te reo Māori, that’s like a dream for a lot of Māori actors. I feel like Ihaka is Mr Perfect in a lot of senses and it’s also nice to, for once, be able to play a character who is on the right side of the law. It’s part of our job as Māori actors, to be true to ourselves in our culture and embrace it and be proud and be happy. By doing that, we also inspire the younger generation, which is very important to give them a sense of pride in themselves.– Xavier Horan on playing Te Reo Māori Consultant Ihaka Herewini, Stuff, 30 September 2021
