On a dark and stormy night in Ferndale a baby is born...just not on a bed. This excerpt from Shortland Street features a dramatic birth and a clash of cultures. Paramedic Rangi (Blair Strang) confronts Grace Kwan (Lynette Forday) and senior doctors about an autopsy on a young Māori patient who died during a drug trial. Frustrated by their lack of cultural sensitivity he takes action. Out on the wind-lashed harbour the ferry Toroa has sprung a major leak — perfect timing for Carmen (Theresa Healey) to enter the last, sweaty throes of labour. Luckily Rebecca (Luisa Burgess) knows what to do.
For what it's worth Jen, If he makes the same mistake again, it won't be with me.– Ellen Crozier (Robyn Malcolm) has a warning for Jenny Harrison (Maggie Harper)
