Here's how the Showcase Viewers’ Final worked. Viewers had to vote for their favourite act (as seen on Showcase) by phoning the 0900 number as shown on-screen. The lines would open at the time of transmission and remain open until around 8.25pm (as mentioned by host Ian Fraser). Once the lines closed, the production team had five minutes to tot up the number of votes so the results would be finalised and the winners would be announced live to air at around 8.30pm.
