I was in the talent competition in Tauranga hosted by Steve Allen . Sure it was 1974.. from memory I think I came third. I'd love to know if there is still any footage of the show. I was 7.

I've been trying to find out more about the Hammond Family. I'm Jim Hammond's cousin Mike. I wrote a song called Amber, which they recorded on EMI in 1974 and I've often wondered what they are all doing now. Any information would be welcome. p.s. Lachlan the clip works here.

For some reason it's not working for me, I get picture but no sound. I'm only interested as my dad is John from the Hammond family

I'm fascinated by Davina Henderson's Cabaret medley. Away from the dark context of the musical (Abortion! Nazis! Heartbreak!) and with the verse removed about Elsie the prostitute who died of "too much pills and liquor", the performance is more like a cheery a pick-me-up.

Also, it appears that all the performances are lip-synced. I assume this was only for technical reasons, rather than Milli Vanilli reasons. And it's also hilarious that the studio audience is made up of the other contestants, with their restrained, New Zealand clapping.

I have the Hammond Family LP won in a competion in the mid 70's. I still play it when the record collection comes out.

Re: Clip 4.
Would the BSA allow The Hammond Family 'Shorting Bread' now days with such racist lyrics ?.

OMG.
Loved Space Waltz 'Beautiful Boy', way ahead of it's time !.
Well a little too 'glam' for some of the judges.
The late Phil Warren knew talent when he saw it !!, even if he had, had a few apéritif's in the green room.
Alastair Riddell did have trouble with close ups with lip sync on 'Out On The Street' in their first performance on New Faces , but to a lesser degree with 'Beauitful Boy'.
25 points from me to Space Waltz. :-P
