One of the most dangerous stretches of water in the world provided a huge challenge to extreme adventurer Grant Rawlinson. This film documents his Rowing from Home to Home expedition, a voyage never attempted before from Singapore to New Zealand. Rawlinson faced the trials of the wild during the 12,000 km journey, including a world-first row from Singapore to Australia, cycle across Australia, and row across the treacherous Tasman Sea. The Sea Decides screened at the 2021 Doc Edge Festival, where director Alistair Harding was named Best New Zealand Emerging Filmmaker.
If I was going to use one word for the Tasman, I’d say it was cruel. The waves, they just keep coming, they’re endless, they’re like bullies ... Cold water. Sharks. Violent seas. I asked myself the question a number of times – ‘What the hell am I doing out here?'– Adventurer Grant Rawlinson
