My Mummy & Daddy are in this film, part of the locals LOL. They shared the story with us. Luckily they had it @ our local United Video store for rental back in the days. And Maori tele viewed it a few years back. Classic!

I remember this Movie, loved it. I was the little baby in the canoe at the start of the movie. Wish I can get a copy but hard to find.

I remember as a little girl living in aitutaki and travelling to a deserted island with my Grandmother who is now passed and I remember it was sooo hot and the water and island was so beautiful and I was there on that same island this film was situated and it seemed like "forever" but I was so dying for water hahaha it was horrible experience that is all I remember about being part of this behind the scene film .Wud love to know where this film is though to show my kids their great grandmother who is a " extra faces " around the background throughout the movie aaaww God bless her soul.

I was born in the 80's and watched this movie at around age 5. I can still remember the clips like I just saw it yesterday. A very memorable story indeed.

I saw this movie way back in 1985 in India. I have been trying to buy the DVD ever since, without success. I live in New York and unfortunately there seems to be no availability in the US. I came across this website selling only PAL copies (not NTSC or universal). FYI - if anyone's interested:

This is a very interesting story i really like it ,and Joy Cowley too is a very smart person ,because he wrote the story and it was very touching.Many of the scene are easy to picture,so thank you for making me understand this story.

Its so true, this novel is so touching and close to my heart, its all about friendship...a reality. This book back in 1992 in one way or the other touched my heart which influenced on my life too. I am thankful to the author for wonderful effort.

I remember this so well from primary school. The story has never left me, nor the images and I have thought of it over the years - I'd love to see it released on television for today's kids to enjoy

I was 14 yrs when this book was used in school as a Literature Novel and from that day on I loved the novel so much. Back in School after finishing the Novel we were shown the film "the Silent One" Till today I hold this book as a special memory and kept it with me for so long never to part with it. Its one of the famous book in schools back home in Fiji Islands. totally adored the movie. The book touches my heart.

I've tried several video rental shops in west Auckland, does anyone know where I rent or buy the movie? Love the realness coming out of the islands with the orator and others alike, Yvonne, Dave and Ian...The silent one sequel?

I watched this years ago when I was a young girl. I'm patiently waiting for it to come out on DVD. I mean, it was on HBO at one time. Goodness. LOL.
