Eight-year-old Jesse (David Lolofakangalo Rounds, in his first film role) fends for himself during the day, darting in and out of his derelict caravan park, creating dioramas from family photos and willing his grief-stricken father (Filthy Rich's Joe Folau) to face life again. His V8 loving neighbour Rena (Lena Regan) watches on; their silent understanding turns to action and together they find a way to make Jesse's dad confront his pain. This multi-award winning short was written and directed by Zoe McIntosh. A number of her earlier films (Day Trip, Lost in Wonderland) also focus on outsiders fighting to change their world.
King of Caravans was a doco I made many years ago about a derelict caravan park. It was home to all sorts of people who were desperate for shelter and refuge. As I spent time there and observed these people, my mind kept wondering how on earth would someone get themselves back on track, feel hopeful again and get out of this miserable place.– Zoe McIntosh on the origins of The World in Your Window, The Stable website, 24 July 2018
