Like a geriatric Rocky on wheels...– Todd McCarthy, reviewing the film in showbusiness magazine Variety, 11 September 2005
This is one of Anthony Hopkins' most endearing, least showy performances. (Hopkins) is concerned here with the precise behavior of a quiet, introverted man who is simultaneously obsessed and a little muddled. It's as if his fellow racing drivers have been visited by a traveler from the dawn of their sport, when guys tinkered with their machines in the tool shed and roared up and down country roads. Burt Munro is a man for whom the world seems brand-new.– Roger Ebert, reviewing The World's Fastest Indian, 3 February 2006
an old-fashioned feelgood drama with a triumph-against-the-odds climax that you could see coming from the first frame. But the fresh clean lensing was a joy to behold and Anthony Hopkin's performance inhaled the nature of a mid-century Kiwi bloke.– Reviewer Peter Calder in a list of the ten best movies of 2005, The NZ Herald (TimeOut pullout), 31 December 2005, page 13
