Director Jan Oliver Lucks and his actor girlfriend (Natalie Medlock) are keen to marry. Before they do, they decide to try an open relationship for a year — and to document their experiences. Cue scenes of consensual sexual activity and its messy realities. The pair's determination to be open with each other about their shared adventure is tested when difficult emotions enter the picture. Producer Alex Reed credits the film's intimacy coordinator for cementing the high level of trust that was needed. Purchased by streaming service HBO Max, There is No "I" in Threesome is also set for release in Australasian cinemas.
Making this film over the last five years has been one wild, slippery, ride ... we can now finally share the journey, offering a voyeuristic look at the fun to be had when opening up a relationship.– Director Jan Oliver Lucks in a press release for the film, 27 January 2021
