Homegrown - Dairy

Television (Full Length Episode) – 2008

In this third episode of Homegrown, presenter Te Radar returns to his roots as he investigates the ins and (messy) outs of New Zealand's booming dairy industry. Te Radar visits Waikato dairy farms, a lab in Palmerston North, the award-winning Whitestone cheese factory in Oamaru and LIC International; a company developing breeds of 'super cows' via artificial insemination. He discovers the recipe for happy herds and talks to Dr Steven Pratt who turns cow waste into bioplastics. Throughout the show Te Radar sticks by his thesis that by productivity alone, the cow should 'replace the Kiwi' as New Zealand's 'national animal'.

"Lesbianism or death" Could be a slogan for the election campaign...
– Te Radar muses on the need for frisky dairy cows to sustain the industry
