We must build sea walls to keep us safe.– Kourataake Ruetie, one of the kids from Kiribati
Kiribati people are resilient people; they’ve been here for thousands of years. They know how to survive … but climate change is a different and a very new phenomena for all of us … we are vulnerable because we have lost so much of what Kiribati should have. But we have to learn about the impacts and the effects and try to manoeuvre our way and life within it, we can’t just say no, we can’t get defeated.– Kiribati climate campaigner Pelenise Alofa
Co-director Andrea Egan and I had previously been contracted to make climate change videos for the United Nations and non-governmental organisations, but I felt that these were often quite academic and full of technical jargon; so Suspended Generation was our chance to tell the Kiribati story in a more creative and relatable way for the general public.– Co-director Joe Hitchcock
